In a small coastal barangay where the sea meets the edge of La Union’s horizon, hope arrived not in grand declarations but in the quiet hum of compassion and service. On October 18, 2025, the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU), in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC), and the Philippine National Police (PNP), brought the light of service to Isla Solomon in Pudoc, Bauang, La Union—a community often isolated and with limited access to essential services.

For the residents of Isla Solomon, isolation is more than geography—it means facing challenges in health care, education, livelihood, and basic hygiene. Recognizing these needs, RCSFLU organized a comprehensive “7-in-1 Project” designed to uplift lives and strengthen community resilience. The day embodied all seven Rotary Areas of Focus, seamlessly integrated into a single act of collective compassion.

Through the medical mission, hundreds of residents received consultations, medicines, and vitamins, addressing Disease Prevention and Treatment while improving Maternal and Child Health. The distribution of rice, school supplies, and hygiene kits provided not only nourishment and learning tools but also promoted Basic Education and Literacy and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices through proper handwashing demonstrations.

A coastal cleanup mobilized volunteers and locals alike, emphasizing Rotary’s commitment to Supporting the Environment, while the “Family Matters” talk created a safe space for dialogue on family relationships and peace within the home—touching on Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention. Meanwhile, through shared efforts with partner agencies, the activity also encouraged Community Economic Development, showing residents how unity and cooperation can lead to opportunities for a better quality of life.

Under the leadership of President Alvin Ray Mari Dumuk, RCSFLU continues to live by its guiding call to “Unite for Good.” The Isla Solomon project demonstrated that when Rotary acts with empathy and purpose, every Area of Focus can converge into one meaningful mission—healing, educating, empowering, and protecting communities all at once.
