More than 2,000 students and young professionals from various private and public schools—not only from the City of San Fernando but also from across the entire province of La Union—filled the Saint Louis College (SLC) Gymnasium on September 27, 2025 for the “Estudyante, Negosyante: Financial Literacy Seminar.”
The event, hosted by the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union (RCSFLU) in partnership with the RCSFLU Foundation, brought together the next generation of leaders and changemakers in a transformative learning experience. At the heart of the program was the Philippines’ very own Pambansang Wealth Coach, Mr. Chinkee Tan, whose engaging and energetic presentation turned the complex subject of financial literacy into a relatable, fun, and eye-opening journey for participants. With his signature humor and practical wisdom, he empowered students to rethink their attitudes toward money, embrace the discipline of saving and budgeting, and adopt the entrepreneurial mindset needed to thrive in today’s world.
The overwhelming turnout was matched only by the enthusiasm in the gymnasium, as students responded with laughter, applause, and curiosity. The success of the event was a product of genuine teamwork—spearheaded by the dedicated organizing committee under the leadership of the chair and co-chair, strengthened by the generosity of sponsors and partners, and made seamless by the unwavering commitment of Rotarians and volunteers who gave their time and service.
Far more than a one-day seminar, Estudyante, Negosyante stands as a movement that aligns strongly with Rotary’s Areas of Focus on Basic Education and Literacy and Community Economic Development. By instilling financial knowledge and confidence in young people, the program is shaping not only future professionals but also responsible citizens who will one day uplift their families, communities, and society at large.
As September is celebrated as Basic Education and Literacy Month across the Rotary world, this initiative is a shining example of RCSFLU’s dedication to unlocking minds, creating opportunities, and building brighter futures through education and empowerment. The seeds planted during this seminar will surely grow, leaving a legacy of hope, discipline, and resilience in the lives of the youth of La Union.
